Jarryd Hayne is reportedly in contention for a shock one-off code switch in January - and you won’t believe which sport it is.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Hayne is being headhunted to line up for the Socceroos Legends team when they take on the Liverpool Legends - led by Steven Gerrard - at ANZ Stadium.

Hayne is a long-term Liverpool fan and counts Gerrard as one of his sporting heroes. It’s believed he is considering taking the offer of playing for charity.

The San Francisco 49ers play their final NFL game against the St Louis Rams on January 4, with the All-Star soccer clash set to take place three days later.

“It will be an amazing evening. Jarryd playing should ensure a sellout,” The Daily Telegraph quoted one source as saying. “He’s obviously not a soccer player but Jarryd will go okay. He is such an athlete.”

Hayne wouldn’t play the entire game - more likely he would make a cameo on the wing, where he could utilise his blistering pace.

The former NRL superstar says he is as fit as he’s ever been after training with the 49ers in their practice squad over the last two months.

Hayne visited Liverpool’s headquarters back in 2013 during a Kangaroos tour and has trained alongside the likes of Socceroos champions Brett Emerton and Tim Cahill in the past.

He’s also taken to Twitter recently to talk up the match, including tweeting former NSW and Australian teammate Robbie Farah, who’s also a massive Liverpool fan.
