Gary Emmerson 23 Oct 2017
  • The 16 previous meetings have been shared with five wins each and six draws

  • Both sides have identical 1-2-0 records at the start of the A-League season

Western Sydney Wanderers and Adelaide United clash in the FFA Cup Semi-Final on Tuesday night for the right to face Sydney FC in the final.

The Wanderers will be bidding to seal a first-ever appearance in the FFA Cup final in what would be a Sydney derby, while the Reds are bidding to reach the decider for the first time since winning the inaugural final in 2014.

Match Preview

Western Sydney Wanderers and Adelaide United are 90 minutes away from a spot in the 2017 FFA Cup where reigning A-League champions Sydney FC await the winner.

The Wanderers have home advantage in the semi-final after coming through ties against Wellington Phoenix in extra-time, Bentleigh Greens and Blacktown City on penalties.

Adelaide have made slightly easier work on their path to the last four, not conceding a goal in victories over Newcastle Jets, Melbourne Victory and Heidelburg United.

Both sides earned 2-2 draws in A-League Round 3 at the weekend, Adelaide coming from behind to lead only to concede with eight minutes remaining as they had to settle for a point.

The Wanderers, meanwhile, let a two goal lead slip as the Sydney derby with the Sky Blues ended with a share of the points.

The two results leave the sides with identical starts to the A-League season with a win and two draws each from the opening three games.

It promises to be a thriller of a semi-final with little to choose between the two sides and this one might just go into an additional 30 minutes with five of the last seven meetings ending in a draw.
