Perth Glory aim to extend their unbeaten run at the top of the table when they face Wellington Phoenix in the ‘Distance Derby’ on Sunday at Westpac Stadium.

Competition leaders Perth embark on one of the longest road trips in football on Sunday as Tony Popovic’s side fly across Australia and across the ditch to face Wellington in Round 6 of the A-League.

The only unbeaten team left after five rounds after Sydney lost to Victory last week, Perth have already opened up a four-point lead at the top of the ladder - and they are poised for another win on Sunday when they face the struggling Phoenix.

With four wins from their first five games, Glory are determined to establish themselves as genuine premiership contenders as they chase a first A-League title this season, and if they can maintain their current level, they will prove very hard to stop.

Central Coast almost came away with a surprising point in Perth last weekend, but a 95-minute winner from Chris Ikonomidis handed Glory a 3-2 win and propelled them clear at the top of the ladder.

Wellington are swiftly heading in the opposite direction, coming into this fixture on the back of a three-match losing streak and ninth spot on the table.

After an encouraging start to the season that yielded a win over reigning grand finalists Newcastle and a point away to Brisbane, Wellington have lost their last three matches, scoring just one goal and conceding eight during that period.

All of a sudden new manager Mark Rudan is under pressure to steer his team out of this slump - and it certainly doesn’t get any easier on Sunday against the competition leaders.

Phoenix have won their last two games against Glory in Wellington, but on current form, it would be a big shock if they made it three. Perth have made this trip enough times to know what’s coming, while they are clearly confident and in-form. Back Glory to come away with another three points.
