Match Preview

Sydney FC collected their first point of the campaign two weeks ago when claiming a 2-2 draw with Shanghai Shenhua in China to get off the mark in Group H.

Graham Arnold's side sit bottom of the standings, but now bid to pick up their first victory when they entertain leaders Kashima Antlers at Allianz Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Sky Blues started their Group H campaign with a 2-0 defeat at home to Suwon Bluewings three weeks ago, and Sydney FC fans will be hoping for better when J-League giants Kashima visit the Harbour City.

It has been a mixed back from A-League premiers Sydney since that defeat to Suwon with a win, draw and loss in their three subsequent games. The draw with Shenhua in Shanghai was followed by a win over city rivals Western Sydney Wanderers back in A-League action, with the defeat coming on Saturday against 10-man Newcastle Jets.

Go Aiwa's Antlers side sit top of Group H after collecting four points from their opening two games, a 1-1 draw with Shanghai Shenhua in Matchday One and a 2-1 win at Suwon Bluewings two weeks ago.

Since that win, Kashima have started the J-League season with a 0-0 draw and a 1-0 win - underlining how tough the task in hand is going to be for Arnold's side to break down the Antlers defence.

The two sides met in the AFC Champions League group stages in 2011 with Kashima winning 3-0 in Sydney and 2-1 in Japan. A similar result could well be on the cards on Wednesday night.
