Glory host City on Tuesday night

Melbourne City look to further consolidate their spot inside the top four when they take on the struggling Perth Glory on Tuesday night at nib Stadium in A-League Round 15 action.

After three consecutive defeats, it was essential that City got back to winning ways when they hosted bottom-of-the-table Wellington Phoenix on Saturday night - and that’s exactly what they did, albeit it was tougher than expected.

Phoenix took the lead just before half-time thanks to a goal from Roy Krishna, but City responded brilliantly in the second stanza, with Ross McCormack bagging a double, while rising star Daniel Arzani delivered an eye-catching display complete with two wonderful assists.

With Victory being held to a draw by the Mariners, City rise to third spot on the ladder, two points clear of their cross-town rivals and fourth-placed Adelaide.

Adelaide also leapfrogged Victory courtesy of their win over City’s opponents on Tuesday night, the embattled Perth Glory.

It was always going to be tough for Perth this season following a whole host of pre-season injuries and an inexperienced defence, but after a solid start their bubble has well and truly burst over the last fortnight.

Perth have conceded a whopping nine goals in their last two games, receiving a 6-0 walloping at the hands of Sydney FC, while they also copped a 3-0 hiding against the Reds on Saturday night.

Kenny Lowe has a lot of work to do with his team if they are going to challenge for a finals spot - but they do have a fantastic record against City in recent matches.

Indeed, Glory have won the last three games between the sides, scoring 10 goals in that period. However those encounters won’t have much bearing on this clash, with Perth really struggling at the moment. City to claim a rare win at nib Stadium.

Stats

  • Glory have won the last three meetings between the sides
  • City haven’t won at nib Stadium in over six years
  • One team has scored at least two goals in the last 11 encounters between the sides
