Celtic opened their SPL campaign with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Ross County last weekend at Celtic Park.

But it was their result against FK Qarabag in the third round of Champions League qualifying in midweek that could have massive implications for the the season ahead.

A 0-0 draw in Azerbaijan saw Celtic book their place in the play-off round of Europe's premier club competition thanks to a 1-0 aggregate victory.

Now only Sweden's Malmo stand between them and a lucrative place in the group stages of the Champions League.

Of more immediate is the Glasgow derby with the Jags, who opened their campaign with a 0-0 draw at Hamilton last weekend.

It was a hard earned point for Partick, who were reduced to 10 men following the 24th-minute dismissal of defender Freddy Frans.

Defenders Liam Lindsay and Jack Hendry and goalkeeper Tomas Cerny were in inspired form, though, and were singled out for particular praise by manager Alan Archibald.

Thistle are continuing to build after their return to the Premiership in 2013 and they finished comfortably clear of relegation last season.
