Paris Saint-Germain are in pole position to retain their trophy for the United States/Europe edition of the International Champions Cup and could take another big step towards doing so against Leicester City.

PSG v Leicester kicks off at 2.05pm AEST on Sunday (05:05am UK) and will be streamed live online.

This competition could be included among five won last season by France’s all-conquering club of the present era, for they also landed the domestic treble and the Trophee des Champions.

And new coach Unai Emery looks like starting his job by keeping one of those pieces of silverware in the cabinet, because PSG have made an excellent start to their defence of this increasingly prestigious pre-season title.

The first team to play two matches among the 10 competing in the Northern Hemisphere version, Emery’s side began by outclassing Inter Milan with a 3-1 victory in Eugene, Oregon helped by a double from right-back Serge Aurier.

Then three days later, in Columbus, Ohio, it was the player bought this summer to be Aurier’s rival for the right-back berth, Thomas Meunier, who scored two goals in another 3-1 success, this time against none other than reigning European champions Real Madrid.

Meunier had also produced an impressive cameo appearance as a substitute against Inter Milan when playing further forward down the right, suggesting he could also be a more than useful option as a winger if required.

As for Leicester, they may still be pinching themselves that they are even involved in this competition, which of course is because of their stunning Premier League title success last term.

There was excitement among the players even as they boarded the plane bound for Los Angeles, with this match taking place at the StubHub Center home of LA Galaxy in Carson City.

The Foxes opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw away to Celtic last Saturday, Riyad Mahrez giving them the lead with an excellent curled left-foot finish inside the far post before five perfect penalties earned victory in the shootout for a team clearly still on top of their game.

This is a test for Claudio Ranieri’s side on a par with the toughest they have faced in the Premier League since their rise to the top, but there are not yet any signs of them going off the boil and the English champions are taken to hold their own once more.
