Victory host Wanderers on Saturday

Melbourne Victory look to extend their unbeaten streak against Western Sydney Wanderers to nine matches when the two sides clash in A-League Round 6 action on Saturday night.

Reigning premiers Victory go in search of their fourth win on the bounce when they square off against the Wanderers at Marvel Stadium on Saturday night.

After a slow start to their title defence, Victory have found their groove, winning their last three games to surge up into second spot in the ladder.

Their run started with a win in the Grand Final rematch over Newcastle and continued with a clinical 4-1 dispatch of Central Coast before last week’s brilliant 2-1 triumph over Sydney FC in the Big Blue.

Marquee stars Ola Toivonen and Keisuke Honda haven’t taken long to shine in the A-League, with both getting on the scoresheet last week. Having taken out the Sky Blues, can Victory claim the ‘Sydney Double’ over the Wanderers on Saturday?

Western Sydney haven’t really got going this season, arriving at this encounter in eighth spot on the table and with just one win from five games to start the campaign.

The Wanderers had ample chances to win last week against the Jets, but they misfired in front of goal and ended up suffering a disappointing 2-0 defeat at home.

Searching for back-to-back away wins for the first time in three years after beating Wellington in their last outing on the road, the Wanderers will have to overcome a daunting recent record against Victory in order to secure it.

Victory have won five of their last eight meetings and the other three have been drawn, with the Wanderers’ last win coming back in 2015. At home, scoring for fun and with Toivonen and Honda in the mood, I can’t see Victory losing this one.
