Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United square off in the FFA Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday night.

Adelaide United continue their FFA Cup title defence when they take on reigning A-League premiers Melbourne Victory in a blockbuster quarter-final clash on Tuesday night.

Both sides booked their spots in the last eight with tight victories, with Adelaide accounting for Sydney FC 2-1 and Victory edging Rockdale City Suns 3-2 in the Round of 32 earlier this month.

The game will be played at AAMI Park in Melbourne with kick off scheduled for 7.30pm AEST. It will be broadcast live on Fox Sports in Australia, with live streaming coverage also available online.

Match Preview

Another chapter in one of Australian football’s greatest grudge matches will be written on Tuesday night, with Adelaide and Victory each gunning for a semi-final spot in the FFA Cup.

Chasing the first silverware of the 2015/16 season each side will field their best team as they also look to claim bragging rights before the start of the new Hyundai A-League campaign next month.

It’s been a long wait but Victory will finally play their first FFA Cup tie at home. They played all their games away from home in last year’s competition, when they bowed out to Perth Glory in the quarter-finals at nib Stadium. Victory then travelled to NSW for both their previous matches this year, beating lower league sides Balmain and Rockdale.

It also marks the first time Victory will be in action since winning the A-League title earlier in 2015.

"We're getting excited,” defender Daniel Georgievski said. “We haven't played in front of the fans since the Grand Final, so we're looking forward to it for sure."

As always Victory will look to slice open Adelaide down the fringes, while star attackers Besart Berisha and Fahid Ben Khalfallah have been in great form during the preseason. Former Socceroos midfielder Carl Valeri will also captain the side for the first time.

Adelaide meanwhile will be looking to extend their unbeaten run in the tournament, but this is arguably their toughest challenge yet.

New boss Guillermo Amor notched up his first competitive win when the Reds overcame Sydney in their thrilling extra-time Round of 32 encounter, and he will be hoping for a similar showing from his side here.

Dylan McGowan will be missing for this tie after he was shown a red card in the Sydney game. Fellow defender Tarek Elrich says Adelaide will try and post the win in normal time after the extra-time drama of last round.

"We’ll go out there and worry about ourselves and the style of play we know we can play and we’ll go out there and hopefully get a result and hopefully this time we can do it in 90 minutes and not have to worry about extra time like against Sydney FC. The coaching staff have done a bit of video work on their strengths and weaknesses and have analysed their movements so we know what we want to target."
