Melbourne City v Western Sydney Wanderers Predictions and Match Preview - How will City react?

Gary Emmerson 10 Nov 2017
  • Western Sydney Wanderers have drawn their last four games
  • Melbourne City saw their unbeaten record ended last weekend
  • Wanderers have the upper hand over City with nine wins to three

Melbourne City lost their perfect record last week and will be out to bounce back when they host Western Sydney Wanderers at AAMI Park on Sunday.

City v Wanderers kicks off at 7.00pm AEST at AAMI Park.

Prediction

Match Preview

Melbourne City's winning start to the season came to an end last week when losing top spot on the ladder to Sydney FC after a 1-0 defeat, but they can return to the summit with victory over Western Sydney Wanderers on Sunday.

City lost a tight game against the reigning premiers but Sydney FC's defeat to Central Coast Mariners on Friday night means Melbourne can return to the top of the ladder if they down the Wanderers.

Warren Joyce's side are without Socceroo Tim Cahill, but in Ross McCormack they have a matchwinner and he will be the dangerman that Western Sydney must stop if they are to make Josep Gombau's first game in charge a winning one.

The Wanderers are unbeaten this season but have followed a Round 1 win over Perth Glory with four straight draws, the most recent a disappointing 1-1 stalemate with 10-man Melbourne Victory having missed a penalty when leading.

City are a tough nut to crack, conceding only twice in five games and this promises to be a real game of chess. I can see these two sides cancelling each other out and this one being a fifth straight draw for the Wanderers.
