Gary Emmerson 5 Apr 2018
  • Melbourne City are undefeated in their last three games
  • Central Coast Mariners have suffered four losses in a row
  • The Mariners have not beaten City in the last eight meetings

Melbourne City are finding their best form at the right time and can make it three wins in a row when they host Central Coast Mariners at AAMI Park on Saturday night.

City v Mariners kicks off at 7.50pm AEST at AAMI Park. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports in Australia.

Match Preview

Melbourne City have overcome a late-season blip in fine style and look to be heading into the A-League finals in their best form following back-to-back wins over the last two weekends.

A draw at Adelaide United ended a run of defeats and it was the spark they needed as dominant 3-0 wins over Western Sydney Wanderers and Newcastle Jets followed to move City up to third on the ladder - a run of results which has coincided with the return of Bruno Fornaroli.

A home semi-final is guaranteed is they secure a point from the visit of the Mariners, but Warren Joyce's side will be looking for all three to maintain their two-point gap over cross-town rivals Melbourne Victory.

The season has long been over for the Mariners, who are embroiled in a battle to avoid the wooden spoon with Wellington Phoenix. They currently hold a two-point advantage over the Nix and that is all Central Coast has to play for in the final two weeks of the season.

It is four straight defeats now for the Mariners and that run doesn't look like ending against a City side they have not beaten in the last eight meetings. This one could be pretty ugly for the visitors.
