Melbourne City v Brisbane Roar A-League Elimination Final Match Preview and Predictions - City to progress

Gary Emmerson 19 Apr 2018
  • Melbourne City and unbeaten in their last 10 games at home against Brisbane Roar
  • Roar have won only one of the last five meetings between the sides
  • Bruno Fornaroli has scored in his last four games

Melbourne City and Brisbane Roar get the A-League Finals underway on Friday night when they go head-to-head in the first Elimination Final at AAMI Park.

City v Roar kicks off at 7.50pm AEST. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports in Australia.

Prediction

Match Preview

Melbourne City will start as favourites to move into the last four and book a semi-final with Newcastle Jets when they host Brisbane Roar on Friday night.

Warren Joyce's City side ended the regular season with a disappointing loss to Wellington Phoenix, but hung on to third spot after a run of three straight wins prior to the Round 27 loss.

City have an impressive record against Roar, who claimed sixth spot and the last place in the finals courtesy of a 3-2 away win at Perth Glory on the final weekend.

Roar have not won at AAMI Park against City in the last 10 visits and coach John Aloisi will be desperate to end that run against the club he used to manage.

Brisbane lost 2-0 on their solitary visit to face City during the regular season, and won one and lost one of the two clashes Suncorp Stadium.

That gave City the upperhand and I expect that to be the case again on Friday night as they look to banish the memories of last year's Elimination Final defeat at home to Perth Glory.

Roar have had plenty of travelling this week and with a red-hot striker in Bruno Fornaroli, City should win this comfortably.

Stats

  • Melbourne City and unbeaten in their last 10 games at home against Brisbane Roar
  • Roar have won only one of the last five meetings between the sides
  • Bruno Fornaroli has scored in his last four games
