Liverpool face old rivals AC Milan in the second of their three matches apiece at the 2016 International Champions Cup in Santa Clara, California.

Liverpool v AC Milan kicks off at 12.00pm AEST on Sunday (03:00am UK) and will be streamed live online.

Two of the most famous nights in Liverpool’s recent history have seen them take on the Rossoneri, namely the Champions League Finals the clubs contested against each other within three years between 2005 and 2007.

On the first occasion, of course, Liverpool hit back from a 3-0 half-time deficit in Istanbul to triumph on penalties, but two years later Milan got their revenge by winning 2-1 in Athens.

This will also be the second time in three years that the clubs have met in the International Champions Cup, with the previous clash having taken place in Charlotte, North Carolina in 2014 when Liverpool won 2-0 thanks to goals from Joe Allen and Suso.

Liverpool’s pre-season record this summer had been perfect before they flew to the United States, winning all four of their matches against lower-division domestic opposition to nil.

But they went down 1-0 to a 10-man Chelsea side on Wednesday in Los Angeles, Cesc Fabregas being sent off for a high challenge on new Estonian defensive signing Ragnar Klavan but the Blues still prevailing through a Gary Cahill goal.

Whereas preparations for Jurgen Klopp’s side had been going swimmingly, that result will be seen as a slight setback along with Mamadou Sakho – who missed the end of last season due to a doping issue that has since been dropped – being sent home from the trip for poor timekeeping.

Milan now have Vincenzo Montella as their coach and after winning their first pre-season friendly match 2-1 against Bordeaux, they drew 3-3 with Bayern Munich in their International Champions Cup opener on Wednesday before taking the penalty shootout 5-3.

Ironically, the aforementioned Suso, the Spanish forward who never really made the breakthrough at Liverpool, is now with Milan and scored both goals against Bordeaux before playing for just over an hour of the Bayern match in Chicago.

Despite Liverpool drawing a blank against Chelsea, both teams should be confident in attack judging by what they have shown so far this summer and an entertaining contest at the Levi’s Stadium can be expected.
