Melbourne Victory bid to boost their chances of qualifying from AFC Champions League Group F when they visit Kawasaki Frontale in Japan on Wednesday night.

Kawasaki v Melbourne Victory kicks off at 9.00pm AEDT (7.00pm local time) at Todoroki Athletics Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports in Australia.

Match Preview

Both sides are seeking a first win of the campaign in Group F as they look to get their hopes of qualification back on track following defeats in Matchday Two.

Having started the campaign with an entertaining 3-3 draw at home to Ulsan Hyundai, Melbourne Victory suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat at Shanghai SIPG two weeks ago.

But they still sit ahead of Kawasaki Frontale in the standings with the J-League side having suffered back-to-back defeats with a 1-0 loss at home to Shanghai SIPG followed by a 2-1 reverse at Ulsan.

Will either side collect their first win in Group F or will it be a share of the points at Todoroki Athletics Stadium?

These two sides met in the group stage seven years ago with Victory winning 1-0 at home but suffering a 4-0 defeat in Kawasaki, and Kevin Muscat will be hoping his side perform better on the latest visit to Todoroki Athletics Stadium.

Melbourne do head to Japan in buoyant mood after successive victories over Adelaide United and Melbourne City in the A-League and, providing they can produce a more assured defensive display, can make a serious bid for a first-ever away win in the AFC Champions League.

Kawasaki have started the new J-League season with a win and a draw since those successive losses in the opening two AFC Champions League games, and coach Toru Oniki will see the double header with Melbourne Victory as the ideal chance to get their Asian campaign back on track.
