Match Preview

Kashima Antlers' 2-0 victory in Sydney last week has left these two sides with complete differing fortunes heading into their clash in Matchday Four.

Kashima sit top of Group H with seven points and are destined to progress to the knockout stages, while Sydney FC prop up the standings with a solitary point from three games.

It leaves the Sky Blues needing to reverse last week's form and pick up three points at the Kashima Soccer Stadium if they are to have a realistic prospect of making it out of the group.

Goals from Shoma Doi and Naomichi Ueda earned Kashima the points at Allianz Stadium and they now have qualification in their sights with a repeat victory all but sealing their path into the Round of 32.

A Kashima win and a Suwon Samsung Bluewings victory over Shanghai Shenhua in the other game in Group H would see the J-League side qualify with two games to spare.

Sydney FC have had the week without a game since losing last Wednesday night, while Go Aiwa's Antlers side seeing their unbeaten record in all competitions ended when losing 1-0 at home to Sanfrecce Hiroshima on Saturday.

Will the additional time off be advantageous for Graham Arnold's Sky Blues? They did collect a point from their only away trip of the campaign courtesy of a 2-2 draw at Shanghai Shenhua, but they will need to be a whole lot better than last week to get something in Kashima - especially given an unusual slump in form.
