Prediction

Match Preview

The Socceroos got their first win under coach Bert van Marwijk with an impressive 4-0 success over the Czech Republic in Australia last weekend and play their last friendly before the World Cup when they take on Hungary.

Two goals from Matthew Leckie, a first-ever international goal for Andrew Nabbout and an own goal sealed an impressive victory for Australia who will now look to head to the World Cup Finals on the back of a similar result against Hungary.

It was a relief for Van Marwijk, whose reign as coach had started with a loss and a draw in his previous two games in charge, and the perfect result to boost confidence heading into the finals in Russia.

The Socceroos were given a tough draw in Group C of the World Cup and they are outsiders to progress with France, Denmark and Peru their opponents in the group stages.

But a win over Hungary will ensure Australia travel to Russia with morale high and optimism firing of causing a World Cup upset and progressing to the knockout stages.

Hungary failed to qualify for the World Cup and have lost friendlies at home to Kazakhstan and Scotland and drawn with Belarus in their last three fixtures. The Socceroos can add to that run with success in Budapest.
