A massive opportunity beckons for both Hume City and Oakleigh Cannons as the Victorian NPL sides do battle in the quarter-finals of the FFA Cup on Tuesday night.

Hume City booked their spot in the last eight with an impressive 3-1 victory over Sydney Olympic, while the Cannons picked up a superb victory away to South Australia’s MetroStars.

The game will be played at ABD Stadium in Meadow Heights with kick off scheduled for 7.30pm AEST. The game will be available to watch through Fox Sports, while there is also live streaming coverage online.

One of these sides will see their FFA Cup fairytale continue into the semi-finals while the other will be left to lament what could have been in what promises to be a fantastic spectacle on Tuesday night.

Looking to emulate the feats of the Bentleigh Greens last year, Hume City and Oakleigh are hoping to become only the second non A-League side to feature in the final four of the FFA Cup.

It’s no doubt the biggest clash of each side’s respective histories, but there can only be one winner. On paper and judging by recent results, it appears as if Hume City are heavy favourites to prevail.

They have turned ABD Stadium into a FFA Cup fortress this year, overcoming Brisbane Strikers 4-3 in extra-time in the Round of 32, before producing a convincing triumph over Sydney Olympic at the venue earlier this month.

Hume City also pushed the best side in the country - reigning A-League premiers Melbourne Victory - all the way in a friendly last week, where they led 3-2 after 90 minutes only to concede two stoppage-time goals to fall 4-3.

“(It gave us) a huge amount of confidence,” striker Jai Ingham said of that clash. “To be leading 3-2 into the 90 the minute was huge against the best club in Australia. For us to do that, we were very happy.”

Oakleigh meanwhile will be hoping the magic of cup football will see their recent form immediately turn around. They endured a disappointing campaign in the NPL Victoria, finishing in 11th position.

However they do possess plenty of A-League talent among their side, including the likes of Kofi Danning, Steve Pantelidis, Matthew Foschini and Sean Rooney.

Cannons coach Arthur Papas says he wants to put the pressure on Hume, who are missing two of their starting defenders for the contest.

"On Cup night with all the pressure and crowd, what’s happened prior is irrelevant. And unlocking their back four… they are weakened in the back four right now. They are missing two key defenders and in my front line and I have the likes of Sean Rooney, Pavlovic, Danning to name just three. I’d like to put their back four under pressure and see how they cope."

Hume City and Oakleigh Cannons kick off at 7.30pm at ABD Stadium in the FFA Cup quarter-finals.
