  • Czech Republic have won five of their last six internationals
  • The Czechs won 3-1 in the only previous meeting between the nations in 2000

Australia's Socceroos step up their preparations for the 2018 World Cup when they face the Czech Republic in a friendly on neutral ground in Austria on Friday.

Czech Republic v Australia kicks off at 9.00pm AEST on Friday night. The game will be broadcast by Channel Ten and Fox Sports.

Match Preview

Bert van Marwijk's Socceroos play the first of two friendlies in preparation for the 2018 World Cup Finals when they take on the Czech Republic at NV Arena in St Polten in Austria.

Australia will play two games before heading to Russia for the finals with a meeting with Hungary to come on June 9 as Van Marwijk looks to finalise his plans for the World Cup.

The Socceroos were given a tough draw in Group C of the World Cup and they are outsiders to progress with France, Denmark and Peru their opponents in the group stages.

The Czech Republic, and Hungary for that matter, will give Van Marwijk some idea of what it will be like to face European sides France and Denmark with the Socceroos looking for morale boosting results ahead of the World Cup.

The Socceroos are yet to win under their new coach having lost to Norway 4-1 before holding Colombia to a 0-0 draw and things won't be easy against the Czech Republic, who have won five of their last six international matches.

There is plenty at stake for Australia's 26-man squad with three to be cut before the June 3 deadline for the World Cup line-up to be confirmed. But it might not be the easiest game to impress Van Marwijk against talented opposition.

Stats

  • Australia are yet to win under new coach Bert van Marwijk
  • Czech Republic have won five of their last six internationals
  • The Czechs won 3-1 in the only previous meeting between the nations in 2000

Tips

This could be a tough one for the Socceroos. Czech Republic may have failed to qualify for the World Cup but they have plenty of talent in the squad and can add to their recent run over victories. Back there to be goals in an entertaining contest too.
