Brisbane Roar target back-to-back wins for the first time this season when they play host to bottom-placed Wellington Phoenix on Saturday at Cbus Super Stadium in A-League Round 10 action.

An excellent opportunity awaits for Brisbane to register consecutive victories for the first time this season as they take on the embattled Wellington on Saturday at Cbus Super Stadium on the Gold Coast.

After a tricky start to the campaign, Brisbane are starting to generate some momentum, winning two of their last three games against Melbourne City and last week against the Western Sydney Wanderers.

John Aloisi’s new-look team are starting to strike up combinations, with French import Eric Bautheac putting in a man of the match performance in the 2-0 victory over Western Sydney, while Italian veteran Massimo Maccarone and former Socceroos Ivan Franjic got their names on the scoresheet.

With Tunisian winger Fahid Ben Khalfallah set to return this week, Brisbane are equipped with even more attacking firepower - and Saturday’s clash is looming as a tremendous chance to really kick-start their season.

Wellington are really struggling at the moment, anchored to the bottom of the ladder with just one victory from eight games and coming into this showdown on the back of an extremely disappointing loss last week.

Phoenix raced ahead for a 2-0 lead over Melbourne Victory at home, but they collapsed in the second half, leaking three goals as Victory surged to an unlikely win.

"You can see the players are giving everything. It's not a lack of trying," skipper Andrew Durante said after the loss.
"It's not good enough and I feel for the fans. We're hurting, we're hurting as a club at the moment but we can turn it around and there are plenty of points left to go and we can turn this around."

The two sides played out a thrilling 3-3 draw earlier this season, but Brisbane have improved significantly since then, while Phoenix have gone in the other direction. If the Roar are serious about contending for this season’s premiership, this is a game they simply must win.

  • Roar are unbeaten in five of their last six meetings with Phoenix
