Brisbane Roar vs Adelaide United A-League Preview and Team News - Can Brisbane overturn poor home record?

Brisbane Roar and Adelaide United aim to bounce back from last-start defeats when they clash in A-League Round 22 action at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night.

Currently four points adrift of a finals spot with time quickly running out to make an impression this season, can Brisbane overturn an atrocious home record to emerge triumphant with three points on Saturday night against fifth-placed Adelaide?

Once known as a fortress, Suncorp Stadium has been transformed into a graveyard for Brisbane themselves this season, with the Roar taking just eight points from a possible 36 in their home fixtures in 2017/18.

That’s just two wins from 11 matches at Suncorp, with Brisbane slumping to eight defeats at the famous venue this season.

Compare it to the 2015/16 A-League season when the Roar amassed 35 from a possible 42 points at Suncorp and it makes for disappointing reading.

Things didn’t get any better for Brisbane in wet conditions last week as they slumped to a 1-0 loss at home to the high-flying Jets - can they reverse their fortunes one week later?

Adelaide are also coming into this showdown on the back of a disappointing defeat, suffering a crushing 3-0 beatdown at the hands of rivals Melbourne Victory.

Solid but unspectacular has been the theme of Adelaide’s season, and fifth spot seems an accurate reflection of their level compared to the other sides in the competition.

In terms of current form, I’d say these two teams are pretty even. In fact, I’d say Brisbane - who beat Victory in their last game before facing Newcastle - are performing marginally better. Needing a win to keep pace with the finals, I’ll lean with the Roar to pick up just their third win of the season at home.

Stats

  • Brisbane won the last meeting between the sides 2-1 at Coopers on December 30
  • The two teams have split their last four encounters at two wins apiece
  • Brisbane have scored against Adelaide in their last five meetings
