Brisbane Roar get the chance to lay the first claim for third spot on the A-League ladder when they host Wellington Phoenix at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday.

Brisbane Roar can leap into third spot on the A-League ladder and get first run on Melbourne City when they host Wellington Phoenix on Sunday.

On what could be a thrilling final day of the regular season, a win or a draw will move Roar ahead of City, who take on Perth Glory in the west later in the day.

Roar lost third place last weekend when going down to Perth, but a victory over Kashima Antlers in the AFC Champions League in midweek will have buoyed spirits in the Brisbane camp.

They start as firm favourites to overcome a Phoenix side which is likely to already have their mind of an end of season break having missed out on the finals following last weekend's draw with minor premiers Sydney FC.

Wellington did beat Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium last time that they met, but can they repeat the trick on Sunday?

Stats

  • Both sides have won on the road in this fixture this season
  • Phoenix have won three of the last six between the sides
  • Anything other than a loss will see Brisbane Roar jump up to third - temporarily at least

Team News

Having shuffled his pack against Perth Glory, Brisbane Roar coach John Aloisi recalls Michael Theo, Avram Papadopoulos, Thomas Kristensen and Thomas Broich, while Tommy Oar is back from injury.

Wellington Phoenix have released Shane Smeltz from his contract and he will not feature in the final game of the season. Logan Rogerson, Sarpreet Singh and Oliver Sail come into the squad.
