Adelaide and Sydney clash in the FFA Cup final on Tuesday

Sydney FC attempt to become the first team to secure back-to-back FFA Cup trophies when they face Adelaide United in a rematch of last season’s final on Tuesday night at Coopers Stadium.

Sydney FC will be aiming to make history and become the first team to win consecutive FFA Cup silverware when they square off against Adelaide United on Tuesday.

It’s a rematch of last season’s heated decider that saw Sydney prevail 2-1 in extra-time and Adelaide’s Michael Marrone sent off amid a collision with a Sky Blues ballboy.

Despite only being two games into the A-League season, Sydney find themselves in the middle of a brutal schedule that sees them playing three matches within six days. Steve Corica’s side claimed early derby bragging rights with a controversial 2-0 win over the Wanderers on Saturday and will back up to face Melbourne City on Friday later in the week.

It hasn’t been a brilliant start to the season for Sydney, but they have been solid and are unbeaten - and if they can secure another FFA Cup crown on Tuesday, that will give them immense confidence for the season ahead.

Sydney will be making their second trip to Coopers Stadium this season after coming away with a 1-1 draw in Round 1 just over a week ago. They will be without marquee signing Siem de Jong after he pulled his hamstring against the Wanderers.

Adelaide are also missing some strike power - especially in the attacking third - with George Blackwood and Baba Diawara going down with collarbone and knee injuries respectively in Friday night’s 1-1 draw with Newcastle.

The Reds are also unbeaten to start the new season, but the loss of Blackwood and Diawara up front is a big loss for a team that is already struggling with depth.

Sydney have much more firepower and individual brilliance within their team, and in finals, that can prove the difference. Adelaide have the advantage of playing at home, but I think Sydney will outclass them and collect their second FFA Cup trophy on Tuesday night.
