Adelaide host Perth on Saturday night

Adelaide United and Perth Glory look to build on encouraging victories last week when they clash on Saturday night in A-League Round 19 action at Coopers Stadium.

Adelaide and Perth each got back on track after respective poor runs of form last week - but only one can keep that momentum going and make it consecutive triumphs on Saturday night.

Winless since a 3-0 victory over Perth back in Round 14, Adelaide finally returned to the winners circle last week with a narrow 1-0 win over Wellington away, strengthening their grip on fifth spot as they opened up a six-point lead over three teams currently on 19 points - Brisbane, Western Sydney and Perth.

Glory’s nightmare run of form was much worse - Kenny Lowe’s men hadn’t tasted victory in five matches and had suffered some terrible defeats, including a 6-0 drubbing to Sydney FC and the aforementioned 3-0 loss to Adelaide.

However, Perth bounced back strongly last week, taking advantage of a 10-man WSW outfit to emerge 3-1 victors and put themselves back into finals contention.

It was a must-win clash for Glory, who could have slipped even further behind in the race for the finals, but instead they’re now level on points with the Wanderers thanks to three first-half goals from Diego Castro - who grabbed a brace - and Andy Keogh.

Adelaide have been solid without ever really being spectacular throughout the season, and that trend continued last week as George Blackwood fired home to hand the Reds a 1-0 win over Phoenix.

It’s an important fixture for both sides. Adelaide can extend their lead over their finals rivals and really cement their top six status with a victory, while Perth can end the round in the top six if they grab all three points. Glory have won three of their last five meetings, but Adelaide won their last clash - and at home, I’ll back the Reds to get the job done in another workmanlike performance.

Stats

  • Perth have won three of their last five matches
  • Adelaide won their last clash 3-0 earlier this season
  • Glory won 5-0 at Coopers Stadium last season
