Adelaide face Brisbane on Friday

Brisbane Roar target their third straight win over Adelaide United when the two teams launch A-League Round 6 action at Coopers Stadium on Friday night.

Both Adelaide and Brisbane will be looking to build on last-start victories when they square off to open Round 6 of the A-League on Friday night.

FFA Cup champions Adelaide bounced back from a 0-2 loss at home to Perth before the international break to take down Wellington 3-1 across the ditch last weekend.

Although the 3-1 scoreline appears fairly dominant on paper, the Reds certainly didn’t have it all their own way and were even forced to come from behind after Wellington scored inside the first 15 minutes.

An own goal by Tom Boyle saw Adelaide draw level right on half-time before Ken Ilso bagged himself a double to seal the Reds three points. But, while Adelaide cemented their top four status, they can’t afford another slow start against the Roar on Friday night.

Brisbane are high on confidence after winning their first game of the season last week, with an Adam Taggart double securing them a 2-0 triumph over Melbourne City.

Taggart could prove to be one of the signings of the season when all is said and done, with the former Socceroos striker now scoring five goals in as many matches this season, while he’s also found the back of the next 10 times in his last eight A-League games.

With just one loss this season and a solid recent record against Adelaide, can Brisbane make it back-to-back wins on Friday night? It will take a repeat of last week’s performance, but Adelaide at home are certainly a more formidable opponent than the erratic City away. Given both teams have already drawn a total of five times combined this season, I can see another share of the spoils playing out here.

Stats

  • Brisbane have won the last two meetings between the teams
  • Roar won 2-1 in their last clash at Coopers in December last year
  • Three of the last four scorelines in this fixture has been 2-1
