Sydney FC and Perth Glory battle for a place in the A-League grand final

Sydney FC will play host to Perth Glory on Saturday night, while Melbourne Victory entertain Brisbane Roar on Sunday evening with two spots in the 2016/17 A-League grand final up for grabs.

Brisbane secured their spot in this weekend’s semi-finals with a thrilling penalty shootout win over Western Sydney Wanderers after scores were locked at 1-1 after 120 minutes, while Perth outclassed a disappointing Melbourne City outfit 2-0 at AAMI Park to advance into the final four.

Now all eyes turn to this upcoming weekend. Sydney FC have been a dominant force all season, losing just one A-League game, but now they are in a sudden death scenario, with just one lapse of concentration threatening to undo all the good work they’ve done.

Nevertheless, Graham Arnold’s side will be extremely confident of posting another win and reaching the grand final - they’ve defeated Perth in all three matches this season by convincing 3-0, 4-1 and 4-1 scorelines. Perth are in a purple patch of form however, completely outgunning City in the elimination finals and losing just two of their last 10 games on the road.

Meanwhile, two of the A-League’s most successful champions collide in the second semi-final with Victory hosting Roar.

Victory aren’t in great form, winning just one of their last four games, while Roar will be confident after booking a spot in the semi-finals in dramatic fashion.

However John Aloisi has more on his plate, with Brisbane set to travel to Thailand mid-week for Wednesday’s AFC Champions League clash with Muangthong United.

Besart Berisha also comes up against his old club again, with Victory and Roar splitting meetings this season with a win each and a draw.
