Newcastle Jets and Sydney FC square off in a top-of-the-table clash on Saturday night in the pick of the A-League Round 7 matches coming up this weekend.

Not even die-hard fans of the Newcastle Jets would have picked the reigning wooden-spooners to be on top of the league and unbeaten after six games, but that’s exactly what’s happened in 2017/18, with the Hunter club looking down at the chasing pack, which includes their opponents at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night.

The Jets come into this showdown on the back of a come-from-behind 2-1 victory away to Adelaide - the first time in the club’s history they’ve won three consecutive away fixtures - while Sydney won’t want to lose back-to-back games after suffering a shock 2-0 loss to the Mariners.

Speaking of, Round 7 kicks off on Thursday night when Central Coast host Adelaide United in Gosford. That triumph over the reigning premiers elevated the Mariners into the top six and they will be looking to keep their positive run of form going against Adelaide, who slipped to eighth after falling to the Jets.

Brisbane Roar, still searching for their first win of the season, entertain Melbourne City at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night. It’s been a tough start to the campaign for Brisbane, but perhaps they will be buoyed from salvaging a late point with Victory last week, while City can potentially end Round 7 on top of the table with a win.

Not much has been made of it, but the Western Sydney Wanderers are also unbeaten this season, and they will be hoping to bag their second win of the season (to go with five draws!) when they host Wellington Phoenix, who will be extremely confident after smashing five goals past Perth.

Glory host the winless Melbourne Victory in the final game of Round 7 at nib Stadium on Sunday night as the two sides target a valuable win.
