Victory face Wanderers on Saturday

Melbourne Victory target their fourth win on the trot when they play host to the Western Sydney Wanderers in one of the stand-out matches of Round 6 this upcoming weekend.

After a slow start to the season, Victory are beginning to hit their straps and showcase the sort of form that propelled them to Grand Final glory at the end of last season, winning their last three games to surge into second spot on the ladder - including a superb 2-1 dispatch away to rivals Sydney FC last weekend. The Wanderers meanwhile are yet to get going this campaign, slipping to eighth on the table following a lacklustre 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle in Round 5.

Round 6 kicks off in South Australia as Adelaide United and Brisbane Roar square off. Both teams are coming off last-start victories, with Adelaide beating Wellington 3-1 and Brisbane seeing off Melbourne City 2-0 for their first win of the season.

Sydney FC will be looking to return to the winners circle on Saturday night when they travel to Gosford to face bottom-placed Central Coast Mariners. The Sky Blues dropped to third after their Big Blue loss to Victory, while the Mariners remain winless and anchored to the bottom of the table after going down 3-2 to competition leaders Perth on Sunday night.

Speaking of, Glory have opened up a solid four-point gap at the top of the table and will be looking to break even further away when they make the trip across the ditch to meet Wellington Phoenix in the first game on Sunday. After an encouraging start to the season, Wellington have slumped back into old habits and come into Round 6 in ninth position following their loss to Adelaide.

Round 6 action concludes at AAMI Park as Melbourne City and Newcastle Jets do battle. City remain inconsistent following a 2-0 defeat to Brisbane last week, while Newcastle claimed their first win of the season with a 2-0 triumph over the Wanderers.
