A-League Round 6

Sydney FC and Newcastle Jets look to maintain their unbeaten starts to the 2017/18 A-League season as Round 6 gets underway this upcoming weekend.

Defending premiers Sydney launch the action when they travel to Gosford on Friday night to face the Central Coast Mariners. The Sky Blues have won four of their first five games, alongside a derby draw with Western Sydney, and come into this clash on the back of a 1-0 win over Melbourne City, while the Mariners were held to a 0-0 stalemate with Brisbane.

Newcastle, the surprise packets of the campaign so far, extended their unbeaten start to five games when they eased past Wellington 3-0 on Saturday. Can Ernie Merrick’s Jets set up a potential unbeaten showdown with Sydney next week by claiming another result on Saturday at Coopers Stadium against Adelaide - the team that knocked them out of the FFA Cup?

Melbourne Victory and Brisbane Roar then potentially battle for their first win of the season when the two teams square off in A-League Round 6 action on Saturday night at Etihad Stadium.

It’s been a tough start to the new season for multiple A-League champions Victory and Roar, with the juggernaut sides languishing near the bottom of the ladder with just two points - although, at the time of writing, Victory could get off the mark when they host the Wanderers in a Melbourne Cup eve clash on Monday night.

Perth Glory will look to build on last weekend’s win over Adelaide by heading across the ditch to face the winless Wellington Phoenix, who are appearing set for another tough campaign after their heavy loss to Newcastle.

Melbourne City will be hoping to bounce back from their first defeat of the season when they entertain the Western Sydney Wanderers at AAMI Park on Sunday in the final game of the round.
