New Zealand v Argentina Predictions and Match Preview - All Blacks to move closer to title

Gary Emmerson 7 Sep 2018
  • New Zealand won their opening two games
  • Argentina are 1-1 for the championship
  • The Pumas have never beaten the All Blacks

New Zealand can take another step closer to retaining the Rugby Championship by making it three wins from three when they host Argentina at Trafalgar Park in Nelson.

The All Blacks have already secured the Bledisloe Cup after successive wins (38-13 and 42-12) over Australia and a win at home over Argentina would leave them on the verge of another Four Nations title.

Match Preview

It has been another dominant start to the 2018 Rugby Championship for the All Blacks and it looks unlikely New Zealand will be another but 3-0 after their home clash with Argentina's Pumas.

The All Blacks are the side on top after the first two weekends, winning both games against the Wallabies by a combined total of 53 points after a 38-13 success in Sydney following by an even more impressive 42-12 back across the Tasman.

Argentina have set up an intriguing battle for what ultimately looks like a three-way fight to be runners-up after defeating South Africa 32-19 at home in Mendoza to go 1-1 after a 34-21 defeat in Durban in the reverse fixture.

The stats don't suggest Argentina will have make it back-to-back wins, however, with the Pumas yet to defeat New Zealand. The closest they have come was back in 1985 when securing an unlikely draw.

Argentina did put up a decent effort in this game last when going down 39-22 in New Plymouth before losing 36-10 in Buenos Aires, but once again taking on the All Blacks in their own backyard will be too much.

There has looked like glimpses of errors defensively for the All Blacks in the opening two games, but they should put too many points on the board to worry about suffering an upset.
