Daly Cherry-Evans returns from the State of Origin wilderness to play his first game for Queensland since 2015 as the Maroons field a new-look team for Game 3 at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday July 11.

Three years on from his last appearance inside the State of Origin arena, Cherry-Evans will make his comeback in the No. 7 jersey for Queensland in place of Ben Hunt, who has been demoted to the utility role on the bench.

Hunt takes Kalyn Ponga’s spot on the bench after the electric rising star suffered a hamstring injury for the Knights on the weekend.

"I think it is great news for DCE and great news for Queensland. He has been knocking on the door for several years now waiting for that elusive opportunity and I thought the time was right now for that opportunity to be presented to him," Maroons coach Kevin Walters said of the Manly captain's selection.
"We've picked him because we want to win game three... with another eye on the future as well. Moving forward, if DCE can have a good performance on Wednesday week there is no reason why he can't be back here next year."

Veteran captain Greg Inglis is also out after he broke his thumb for the Rabbitohs on Sunday, with Billy Slater receiving skipping duties in his final Origin game.

Dane Gagai will shift from the wing into the centres as cover for Inglis, while Corey Oates is back onto the flank after missing the first two games for Queensland.

Roosters enforcer Dylan Napa is battling a knee injury and has been named as 18th man as result, with Jai Arrow and Josh Papalii the new-look starting front-rowers. Jarrod Wallace drops down to the bench, while Storm forward Tim Glasby gets his first taste of Origin football since making his debut last year.

Queensland will be hoping to avoid an Origin series clean sweep for the first time since 2000, with the Maroons really struggling this year without the likes of Johnathan Thurston, Cooper Cronk and Cameron Smith.
