Kalyn Ponga will make his State of Origin debut for Queensland as the Maroons prepare to face New South Wales in a do-or-die showdown at ANZ Stadium on Sunday night.

One of the most electrifying youngsters the game has seen in recent years, Ponga has enjoyed a stunning breakout season for the Knights in 2018 - and Queensland coach Kevin Walters says the 20-year-old’s sensational form could no longer be ignored.

Ponga comes into the Maroons side at the expense of Anthony Milford and will likely take up the utility role on the bench. However, there is a chance he could start at fullback if Billy Slater - who hasn’t played since pulling out injured before Game 1 - isn’t fit.

“For Kalyn it’s a great opportunity,” Walters said.
“He’s been the standout in the competition. We understand he’s going to be a long-term player for Queensland. He’s earnt the right (to play).”

Meanwhile, Dylan Napa is also under an injury close after picking up an ankle problem for the Roosters on Friday night.

Storm enforcer Tim Glasby - who made his Origin debut last year - has been called up on stand-by, with Walters to make a decision on Napa early this week.
