Papua New Guinea vs USA Rugby League World Cup Preview and Team News - PNG to prepare for quarter-finals with thumping win

PNG host USA on Sunday

Papua New Guinea are set to put on a show for their home fans when they host minnows USA in their final World Cup group stage clash in Port Moresby on Sunday.

As far as match-ups between World Cup teams that aren’t really considered genuine title contenders, this is quite possibly the biggest mismatch of the tournament.

Papua New Guinea have been on fire in their opening two games, scoring 64 points and conceding just 12 in victories over Wales and Ireland.

USA, by contrast, have been atrocious, scoring just 12 points and leaking a whopping 104 in their two defeats against Fiji and Italy.

After facing a tougher-than-expected contest with Ireland in which they narrowly prevailed 14-6, Papua New Guinea will be looking at making a statement on Sunday, while USA will he happy just to cross the line once after being kept scoreless in a 46-0 thumping to Italy.

There’s really not much more that can be said - Papua New Guinea, playing at home, will be impossible for USA to stop, and the Kumuls could easily put on a cricket score on Sunday.
