Rabbitohs face Roosters on Friday night

Bitter rivals South Sydney Rabbitohs and Sydney Roosters headline Round 22 of the NRL on Friday night when the two sides clash in a top four showdown at ANZ Stadium.

Following on from their brilliant victory over Melbourne last week, Souths need to win again on Friday night in order to maintain their competition lead when they host the third-placed Roosters at ANZ Stadium. With another win over the Cowboys adding to their winning streak last week, the Roosters can potentially go top of the table if they can topple the Bunnies and Melbourne fall to the Sharks.

Round 22 kicks off on Thursday night with the Queensland derby as the Cowboys and Broncos clash at 1300SMILES Stadium. It’s been a nightmare season for the Cowboys as they fight to avoid the wooden spoon, but with Johnathan Thurston retiring at the end of the season, they will be determined to send him out a winner - especially against rivals Brisbane, who need to bounce back after their poor loss to Canterbury last week.

The first game on Friday night pits the New Zealand Warriors into a must-win game against the Newcastle Knights at Mt Smart Stadium. Only four points clear of the Tigers, the Warriors can’t afford to drop points against a side that is out of the finals race in Newcastle.

Super Saturday begins on the Gold Coast when the Titans host the Penrith Panthers. The Titans were defeated by Parramatta in a disappointing display last week, while Penrith staged a remarkable comeback for the second straight week to beat Canberra by a 40-31 scoreline.

Two sides hoping to avoid the wooden spoon - Manly Sea Eagles and Canterbury Bulldogs - square off in the second game on Saturday at Lottoland. The Bulldogs are playing their best football of the season and are on a two-match winning streak after putting 36 points on the Broncos last week, while Manly secured a thrilling 33-32 win over rivals Cronulla.

St George Illawarra Dragons try to stop their slide down the ladder in the last match on Saturday when they meet the bottom-placed Parramatta Eels at ANZ Stadium. The Dragons are down to fourth spot on the ladder and only two points clear of eighth after their defeat to the Warriors last week, while the Eels are doing their best to climb off the bottom of the table, defeating Gold Coast in their last outing.

Wests Tigers continue their unlikely push towards a top eight spot when they take on Canberra Raiders in the nation’s capital on Sunday. The Tigers simply must win if they want to have any hope of playing finals footy, while Canberra’s season is over after back-to-back losses to the Storm and Panthers.

Round 22 action concludes at AAMI Park when Melbourne Storm entertains Cronulla Sharks. Both sides are looking for an immediate response from their defeats to the Rabbitohs and Manly last week.
