Broncos and Cowboys clash on Friday night

Multiple huge games between traditional rivals take place in NRL Round 2 action this weekend, kicked off on Thursday night as Cronulla Sharks play host St George Illawarra Dragons at Southern Cross Group Stadium.

The Dragons will be looking to make it two wins from two against more fancied opposition after they took down the Broncos last week, while Cronulla are aiming to open their account for 2018 after narrowly going down to the Cowboys away in Round 1.

A rematch of the 2004 Grand Final launches Friday night football at Allianz Stadium as the Sydney Roosters face Canterbury Bulldogs. Both sides lost in the opening round, with the Roosters suffering a shock defeat to the Tigers and Canterbury going down to reigning premiers Melbourne.

Brisbane Broncos and North Queensland Cowboys then collide in a mouth-watering Queensland derby at Suncorp Stadium. These to teams have played out some classic matches in recent years, with the Cowboys trying to post back-to-back wins to begin 2018 and the Broncos determined to bounce back from a first round drubbing at the hands of the Dragons.

Super Saturday starts across the ditch at Mt Smart Stadium as New Zealand Warriors and Gold Coast Titans look to build on surprise opening round wins. The Warriors claimed their first ever win in Perth as they took down the Rabbitohs in convincing fashion, while the Titans recovered from 18 points down to topple Canberra in thrilling scenes on Sunday.

Penrith Panthers target consecutive wins to open 2018 when they entertain South Sydney Rabbitohs in the second game on Saturday at Panthers Stadium. The Rabbitohs were disappointing in falling to the Warriors in Perth, while Penrith registered a superb comeback win over arch-rivals the Eels.

Can Wests Tigers stun the NRL world for the second week running? The joint-venture outfit look to back up their big win over the Roosters when they face defending premiers Melbourne Storm at AAMI Park on Saturday. Melbourne are coming off a polished win over Canterbury in Perth last week.

Traditional rivals Manly Sea Eagles and Parramatta Eels do battle in the first game on Sunday at Lottoland. Both sides came out on the wrong end of the scoreboard in Round 1, with Manly going down to Newcastle in golden point and Parramatta squandering a first half lead against Penrith.

Round 2 concludes with an intriguing clash in the nation’s capital between the Canberra Raiders and Newcastle Knights. Canberra will be reeling after letting slip of an 18-point lead against the Titans, while Newcastle are buzzing after their pulsating golden point triumph over Manly.
