  • Croker signs new deal
  • Moylan decision released

Steve Bennett rounds up the latest NRL news including news of a new deal for a Canberra Raider.

CROKER RE-SIGNS WITH THE RAIDERS

Canberra Raiders captain Jarrod Croker has agreed to terms and re-signed with the club for a further three years, keeping him in the lime green jersey until the end of the 2020 season.

Croker played his 200th game earlier this year and has his sights already locked on to passing the 250 game milestone as well.

“I’m a proud Raider and to re-sign at the club is something I’ve always wanted to do” Croker said.

The club’s leading pointscorer with 1568 so far, he is also keen to break other records including the club’s top try scorer which is currently held by his distant relative Jason Croker who scored 120 tries for the club. With 105 tries already on the board, it appears just a matter of time when Jarrod with surpass that figure.

CHRIS GREVSMUHL RELEASED BY THE GOLD COAST

Gold Coast player Chris Grevsmuhl has been released from the final year of his contract with the club by mutual consent.

The 24-year-old has had stints with the South Sydney Rabbitohs and the Penrith Panthers before joining the Titans earlier this season. Unfortunately, a persistent shoulder injury has prevented him from returning to the field this year which has led to his exit from the club.

Everyone at the Titans wish him well for the future and then stated that no further comment will be made on the matter in the best interests of all concerned.

COWBOYS LOSE MARTIN FOR PANTHERS CLASH

The Cowboys have been dealt yet another crippling blow on the eve of their match against the Panthers at Pepper Stadium on Saturday night. Recent signing and former Panthers player Te Maire Martin is a late withdrawal after succumbing to a knee injury he sustained in last week’s loss to the Melbourne Storm.

It was the last thing the Cowboys needed to hear after already losing back-rower and current captain Gavin Cooper and winger Antonio Winterstein also through injury.

It’s been a long hard road for the 2015 premiers having lost co-captain Matt Scott early in the year to a season ending ACL injury and not long after, their other co-captain and strike player Jonathan Thurston to a shoulder injury that is also season ending.

Utility player Kyle Laybutt comes into the squad and has been granted special dispensation to join the team as he was not initially a member of the 21 member squad. Coach Paul Green has hinted that he may start Ben Hampton in the halves alongside newly named team captain Michael Morgan and keep Laybutt fresh on the interchange bench.

Meanwhile, Panthers captain Matt Moylan has been given the green light to start on Saturday night after recovering from his hamstring injury.
