It’s a must-win game for both Gold Coast Titans and Canterbury Bulldogs as the two struggling sides face off in NRL Round 10 action on Saturday afternoon.

After putting together poor starts over the first nine rounds of the competition, it’s time for the Titans and Bulldogs to step up and claim a vital two points on Saturday.

Neither side is expected to make the finals this season, but it’s extremely tough to see the loser of this clash going on any sort of run towards the top eight.

Canterbury have put in some spirited displays across their seven defeats this season, most notably in close margins against top four sides Souths and Melbourne, while they weren’t blown off the park in recent matches against Manly and Newcastle.

Currently anchored to the bottom of the ladder, these are the sorts of matches the Bulldogs need to win if they are to avoid the wooden spoon and make a charge up the table.

Dean Pay has received a boost for this encounter, with Corey Harawira-Naera returns after missing Magic Round due to personal reasons, while Rhyse Martin is also back on the bench after being dropped last week.

Meanwhile, the Titans have an identical 2-7 record and have lost their last three games against the Tigers, Cowboys and Sharks coming into this clash.

As has been the case for the last few years and the majority of their existence, the Titans simply don’t have the roster to compete week in week out against the best sides - although, on their day, they do have some great football in them.

These two sides have split their last four meetings at two wins apiece, and this game is anyone’s shot. Both teams are desperate and aren’t bringing much momentum into this one. I think Gold Coast have more points in them, so I’ll lean with the home side coming away with the spoils.

Stats

  • Titans and Bulldogs have split their last four encounters at two wins each
  • They’ve only played one match on the Gold Coast since 2015 (Bulldogs won last year)
  • Titans won their last clash 32-10 in Round 15 last year
