Newcastle Knights go in search of their first win over Canterbury Bulldogs since 2013 when the two sides do battle in NRL Round 9 action on Saturday afternoon.

Newcastle will be out to snap a six-game losing streak against the Bulldogs when the two sides launch Super Saturday during the NRL’s Magic Round at Suncorp Stadium.

Winless against the Bulldogs over the last six years, the Knights will start this encounter as favourites after stringing together back-to-back wins for the first time over the last fortnight.

Much was expected of the Knights prior to the season, however they won just one of their first six games to languish in 15th spot on the ladder. Nathan Brown was under immense pressure, but that’s been lifted for the time being after Newcastle beat Parramatta at home and the Warriors away to rise up to 10th on the ladder.

Brown has named the same side that strolled past the Warriors 36-18 last week.

Canterbury meanwhile lost a game by eight or less points for the third time this season last week as they went down 18-10 to Manly at Brookvale.

Apart from a couple of floggings at the hands of the Warriors and Dragons, the Bulldogs have been in most of their games and have claimed two wins over the Tigers and Cowboys this season.

Still, they are currently anchored at the bottom of the ladder, and if the are to make an unlikely charge for a finals spot this season, these are the kind of games they need to win. Canterbury do receive a big boost for this clash, with Kieran Foran set to return from an ankle injury to join fellow key figure Dylan Napa back in the Bulldogs side.

As mentioned, the Bulldogs have won the last six games between the sides, but I’m not sure they’re up to winning this one. Newcastle aren’t faring much better, but they have a stronger team on paper and bring winning form into this clash. It’ll be a very poor loss if the Knights fail to continue their momentum and lose to the bottom-placed side.
