Donald Trump wins US Election - Sportsbet pays out $11 million to Aussie Trump backers

Rippa Staff 10 Nov 2016
  • Sportsbet pay out more than 25,000 Australians following Donald Trump's shock US Election victory
  • $11 million in total handed back to Trump backers

Donald Trump stunned the world - and bookmakers alike - after winning the US Election and becoming the 45th President of the United States of America.

Online bookmaker Sportsbet.com.au has announced they’ve paid out a massive $11 million to over 25,000 punters who backed ‘The Donald’ to win the US Election.

One lucky punter won $380,000 after placing $100,000 on Trump at odds of $3.80 in October, while another will be jumping for joy after securing a $10,100 payout from a $100 bet on Trump at odds of $101 in 2014.

With the widespread fallout from Trump’s shock victory continuing in the US and around the world, Sportsbet have established a series of markets surrounding the former reality TV star and the possible consequences of his rise to Presidency.

Comedian Amy Schumer ($4.00) is the favourite to become the first celebrity to move to Canada, while Hilary Clinton ($1.30) is favourite to be the first person Trump throws in jail.

Trump is a mere $1.50 to scrap Obamacare as his first act inside the White House, while Vladimir Putin is $3.00 to send a public message of congratulations to the new President.

“What a day it has been and what a four years we have ahead of us,” said sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Bulmer.
“The punters beat us, with more than 25,000 Aussies successfully predicting the outcome of the election despite the weight of public opinion suggesting Trump was no chance. Well played.”
