Rippa Staff 31 Oct 2016
  • The Melbourne Cup is Race 7 on the Flemington program
  • Hartnell and Jameka leading hopes
  • Plenty of internationals chasing Cup glory
Horses leap from the barrier at the start of the Emirates Melbourne Cup

The $6.2 million Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m) will be run at Flemington on Tuesday with a start time of 3:00pm.

We are just days away from the running of the 2016 Melbourne Cup; a total of 32 horses remain in contention with the final field to be declared on Saturday.

The Group 1 feature is scheduled for 3:00pm. It will be Race 7 on the 10-race program and will be broadcast live on Channel 7 and Sky Racing in Australia.

Cox Plate runner-up Hartnell is one of the leading Melbourne Cup contenders based upon his dominant Turnbull Stakes win over Jameka prior to the Cox Plate.

Jameka has come out of that race and comfortably won the Caulfield Cup. She looks in peak condition as she looks to complete the Caulfield Cup-Melbourne Cup double.

A number of internationals will have claims in the race that stops a nation, headed by Bondi Beach, Heartbreak City, Big Orange, Wicklow Brave, Exospheric and Curren Mirotic.

Other locals that may be able to snare the Cup include Almandin, Almoonqith and Who Shot TheBarman.
