Kolkata Knight Riders v Rajasthan Royals IPL Match Preview and Predictions - KKR to eliminate Royals

Rippa Staff 14 May 2018
  • In 17 matches, RR have won nine and lost seven with one abandoned.
  • At this venue, the record is 4-1 for KKR, with their only loss coming in 2008.
  • KKR have so far won three and lost three at home this season.
  • RR have won two and lost four of their six away games.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) picked up their third successive win on Sunday to keep their fight alive in the play-offs race and up next for them is the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) team that also stormed back into contention with a comprehensive win at the weekend.

This is the 49th match of the Indian Premier League and will be played at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Tuesday, May 15.

Both sides played 12 matches so far, with KKR picking up 12 points and RR pocketing ten. A win will improve the chances for both sides, while a loss will spell the end of the Royals’ campaign.

Match Preview

Kolkata come into this game on the back of a comprehensive 31-run win over Kings XI Punjab. All their batters made merry, with Sunil Narine leading from the front with a knock of 75 from 36 balls. Their score of 245 was always steep for Kings XI who were kept under check by Andre Russell (3/41).

That win ended a two-match losing streak for the Knight Riders and brought them back into the top-four contention. They still have a lot of ground to cover and will hope that their aggressive batting will continue to set things up. Sunil Narine (277 runs at SR 177.56, 14 wickets at ER 7.82) is leading from the front with his all-round skills.

Rajasthan are fresh from a seven-wicket thrashing they dished out to Mumbai Indians. Their middle-order bowling improvisations helped reduce MI to a below par score of 168. That was easily scaled, with Jos Buttler (94* off 53 balls) leading from the start to the end.

Buttler’s resurgence (509 runs, SR 153.77) at the top of the order has been sensational for the Royals. With Jofra Archer (13 wickets, ER 7.90) leading with the ball, Rajasthan are making the most of their late season momentum.

Their earlier encounter in the season saw KKR post an easy seven-wicket win. An all-round bowling effort restricted the Royals to 160 and KKR strolled to a win riding on key knocks by Karthik and Robin Uthappa.

Key Players

Narine’s runs have been so consistent that it has prompted captain Dinesh Karthik to proclaim that he is thinking like a genuine batsman now. That only adds to the aggression of this side that is flush with hard hitters.

When it comes to hard hitting, there is probably no one ahead of Buttler. The English ‘keeper has been the difference for Royals, enjoying his stint at the top of the order.

Tips
