India v Australia 3rd T20 Preview and Predictions - Series decider in Hyderabad

Rippa Staff 12 Oct 2017
  • Australia levelled the series with an eight-wicket win
  • India are still favourites to win the decider

Australia stormed back into the series with a thumping eight-wicket win in the second T20 to level the series 1-1 and it is all to play for when the bandwagon moves to the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Friday, October 13.

What changed between Ranchi and Guwahati? Did the war cry of David Warner to bring back the old Australian spirit work wonders? Or did the thought of hurling towards another series loss spur them into action?

With rains lashing Hyderabad in the past few weeks, it looks likely that we may have another shortened match for the decider.

Match Preview

Ranchi match was refreshingly dominating for the Aussies. With the ball, it was the swing of Jason Behrendorff that set the tone for the match. India could never recover from the early blows and a target of 119 looked too little to defend for the hosts.

The icing on the cake for the visitors is the 109-run unbeaten partnership between two players under the cosh – Moises Henriques and Travis Head.

Warner showed that his experience of managing an IPL team came in handy and, with everything to play for, he will be looking to get his team to repeat their heroics from the last match.

India looked out of sorts against the left-arm pace of Behrendorff who literally scythed through their batting. With Virat Kohli still struggling for runs, the pressure is on the top order to deliver.

For the first time on this tour, the Aussies looked to have decoded the chinaman deliveries of Kuldeep Yadav who has been very expensive at Guwahati.

However, it was just an off-day for the Indians and the selectors may not be hard pressed into making wholesale changes for the decider.

Line-ups

With Kuldeep proving expensive in the second match, the temptation is there to replace him with Axar Patel.

Australia may not want to make any change – unless there is a last-minute injury or withdrawal.

Stats

This is the first ever T20 International match on this ground although it has played host for five ODIs earlier. The hosts have now lost three out of their seven T20Is played this year while Australia have won just two of their five T20Is.

Predictions and Tips

Australia surprised the betting market by cantering to an easy win in the second match. Can they repeat the dose? India should set their performances straight and get back to winning at odds of $1.61 (bet365).

Kohli must be smarting after scoring his first duck in T20Is. Back him to be back among runs – odds of $1.83 (Ladbrokes) on the Indian captain scoring over 26.5 runs.

Australia should continue to score more in the first six overs. Back the visitors at odds of $2.00 (Ladbrokes) to score more than India in the powerplay.
