  • At the Kotla Stadium, RCB have won five of the seven encounters, losing two.

After a loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad ended their playoff hopes, Delhi Daredevils will have nothing but pride to play for when they welcome Royal Challengers Bangalore to the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi on Saturday, May 12.

Both sides have six points, but RCB have played a game fewer (ten). Should they go on to lose this game, their fickle hopes of qualifying for the playoffs will be decimated.

Match Preview

Delhi’s season ended in a whimper when they collapsed to a nine-wicket loss to SRH. That was their eight loss this tournament and their third in four games, which is an apt reflection of how poor they have been, all season long.

Their only saving grace has been the form of Rishabh Pant (521 runs, SR 179.65), who is fresh off a stupendous century against SRH. With everyone else faltering around him, DD have found it tough to set up match-winning totals. The less said about their bowling – which has been expensive all along – the better!

RCB aren’t any better, with inconsistent performances of their own. With just one win in five games, their season is showing all signs of finishing for good. They have won just three games this year and all of them have come on the back of individual brilliances.

That brilliance has come from the duo of Virat Kohli (396 runs, SR 135.15) and AB de Villiers (286 runs, SR 174.39). Bowling led by Umesh Yadav (14 wickets, economy rate 8.14) has been all over the park, conceding runs in tonnes!

In their earlier encounter this season, in Bengaluru, it was an AB special (90 runs off 39 balls, 10X4 5X6) that won RCB one of their three victories of the season.

Key Players

The kind of form that Pant exhibited against SRH was of the top drawer. His ability to find the boundaries at will and pummel the bowling attacks into submission make him a tough nut to crack. With a friendly bowling attack in RCB waiting for him, another big score could be in the offing.

Consistent losses may have taken the sheen off Kohli’s captaincy record, but there is no doubting the fact that he remains one of the best batsmen in any format. Back at his home ground, playing for his adopted IPL side, could bring the fighting best out of him.

Tips

Back DD to score more in the first six overs at odds of $1.91 (William Hill).

Also back AB de Villiers to score over 1.5 sixes at odds of $2.00 (Ladbrokes).
