Australia v Pakistan T20 Predictions and Match Preview - Rivals clash in Tri-Series final pre-cursor

Rippa Staff 4 Jul 2018
  • Australia have won their last 3 T20 matches against Pakistan.
  • Under Aaron Finch’s captaincy, Australia have won 3 of their last 4 T20Is.
  • Australia have won 4 of their last 5 away T20Is.
  • Pakistan have won 8 of their 9 T20Is played at this venue.

After booking their spots in the final of the T20I Tri-Series tournament, Pakistan and Australia will clash in match five at Harare Sports Club in Harare on Thursday, July 5.

This will be Pakistan’s last group stage engagement before the big final on Sunday, while Australia have one more game against Zimbabwe to crease out any chinks in their armour. With brownie points on offer, both sides will be eager to assert their supremacy with a win.

Match Preview

Pakistan picked up routine wins against Zimbabwe – by 74 runs in the first match and by seven wickets in the second. In between, they lost out to Australia by nine wickets.

Their previous match saw Pakistan stretched a bit by the hosts who scored 162/4 riding on a Solomon Mire special. Pakistan didn’t look entirely convincing, but were never out of control in the chase reaching 163/3 in the 20th over.

Fakhar Zaman (114 runs, SR 128.08) and Hussain Talat (64 runs, SR 112.28) remain their best performers with the bat. Bowlers struggled for impactful performance with no one taking more than three wickets.

Australia have reasons to be happy and concerned with their performances so far. While it has been an Aaron Finch show (240 runs, SR 220.18), the fact that only the openers got a decent hit in the two matches so far is a worry.

No such problem with the bowling front as Andrew Tye (six wickets, ER 6.38) and Billy Stanlake (five wickets, ER 6.71) have led from the front. With all the bowlers conceding under seven runs an over, the Aussies look a settled bowling unit for now.

The sides met earlier in the tournament when Stanlake’s 4/8 dismantled Pakistan for 116 all out. In reply, Finch smashed an unbeaten 68 off 33 to race to victory in just 10.5 overs.

Both sides will have one eye on the final and look for a morale boosting victory, but also will be keen not to lose the winning momentum making this an interesting battle.
