James Anderson returns to the England squad

James Anderson has been declared fit enough to take his place in the England squad that has been named for the fifth and the final Ashes 2015 Test match.

The quick bowler missed the series-deciding fourth Test at Trent Bridge because of a side injury he suffered in the third Test but it looks like the treatment he underwent seems to have worked quickly enough for him.

Anderson was looking to get back into his rhythm and bowling best when he pulled short in the second innings of the Edgbaston Test match with that injury.

After going wicketless in three successive innings, it was his six-wicket haul in the first innings of that Edgbaston Test that turned the game into England's favour from the very start.

Anderson returns to the squad in place of Mark Footitt, who along with Liam Plunkett was brought into the team for the fourth Test as cover.

In the end, Mark Wood replaced Anderson in the line-up but now with the premier quick bowler back in the squad, he will mostly reclaim his place back in the England playing XI.

The Footitt-Anderson swap was the only change in the England squad that was made for the fifth Test.

However, if Anderson doesn't get fit for the final Ashes Test that will be played at The Oval from August 20, it will be interesting to see whether England will make any changes to their line-up.

Already there are calls for Adil Rashid to be included in the England playing XI as the second spinner behind Moeen Ali but it will be subject to the pitch in question.

The Oval track has had this reputation of assisting spinners but in the last Test that was played on this ground, India were rolled over by the English seamers for 148 and 94 respectively. England's only spinner, Moeen Ali, bowled just one over in the match.
