Port Adelaide Power v West Coast Eagles Predictions and Match Preview - This is a must-win game for the Power

Rippa Staff 9 Aug 2018
  • The Port Adelaide Power face a must-win game at Adelaide Oval against the West Coast Eagles

This is a blockbuster showdown between the Port Adelaide Power and West Coast Eagles at Adelaide Oval on Saturday, August 11 at 4:35pm AEST.

The match can be seen live on Fox Footy from 4:30pm

Match Preview

As we fast approach Round 21, the finals race is almost no clearer than it was a month ago. Only two teams are comfortable at the top of the table, others are left scrambling to win all-important matches at the back end of the season, one of those being the Port Adelaide Power.

Port Adelaide have been left to lament what could’ve been, after a disappointing month with has included losses to Fremantle, GWS and Adelaide, sees them outside the top four, looking in. Another loss against West Coast could leave them as low as tenth after the end of Round 21, which would be a catastrophic result after a top-four spot looked all but locked up after their five-game winning streak that included a gusty 14-point win over the Tigers.

What a week it has was for West Coast. Round 20 was drawing to a close. With so many exciting matches on Friday night and Saturday, the Sunday matches provided little excitement, with Melbourne clobbering the Suns and the Eagles in command against the Dockers in the Western Derby.

This was until Andrew Gaff punched Andrew Brayshaw. The next 60-90 minutes was utter madness. Brayshaw and Gaff were both tears on the bench, Brayshaw for the pain and horror of his badly fractured jaw and displaced teeth, Gaff for the stark realisation of his actions.

The Eagles came away winners, 58 points, however, it didn’t feel like a winning atmosphere. As we look forward and preview this match, many factors must come into play. Are the Eagles slightly flat after the events of Sunday afternoon? Can Port Adelaide bring a finals-like intensity that’s needed?

Team News

The big news in the football world is obviously the suspension of Andrew Gaff. The star midfielder will eight weeks for his punch to Andrew Brayshaw. Gaff will be sorely missed by the Eagles as they prepare for a finals campaign.
