Melbourne Demons v North Melbourne Tips and Predictions - Demons to back up great win in Adelaide

Rippa Staff 19 May 2017
  • Melbourne come off a great win in Adelaide last week
  • North Melbourne have only won a single game for the season
  • Jarrod Waite returns for North

This is an important clash for both sides for different reasons. Will North post their second win of the season or can Melbourne continue their strong momentum and push for a finals place?

First bounce is at 3:20PM AEST on Sunday afternoon at the MCG and the action can be seen on Channel 7 and Fox Sports. AFL Live Vision is also available to ALL CrownBet members. Every Match, wherever you are.

Match Preview

Melbourne Demons announced themselves as the real deal in Adelaide last week. They won the game against the Crows well after trailing early and look like they could be a finals contender if they can keep that form up.

North Melbourne, on the other hand, continue to struggle. They were outplayed for four quarters at home against a struggling Sydney Swans side.

The Kangaroos do get the services of Jarrad Waite back this week and he is a very important member of the side.

North Melbourne will have a clear advantage in the ruck with Todd Goldstein. If he can dominate against the Demons third and fourth string ruck division and the Roos can take advantage of the dominance we might get a close contest in this match.

However the Demons are ranked 2nd in contested possessions and should be able to nullify the North Melbourne midfielders enough to take the game away from them.

Team News

Unsurprisingly, the Demons are unchanged.

North Melbourne welcome back Jarrad Waite. Andrew Swallow is also back in deck along with Aaron Mullett and Taylor Garner. Trent Dumont is ruled out with concussion and Jy Simpkin (AC Joint) and Jed Anderson (foot) are also injured, with Sam Durdin omitted.

Stats

  • Melbourne are ranked 2nd in both contested possessions and overall possessions
  • Melbourne are also dominant around the centre clearances, they sit 3rd at an average of 15 per match
  • North Melbourne have won the last 15 matches between these two clubs

Prediction and Tips

Melbourne should be far too good for North in this one at the MCG. Although Waite is back and North have been dominant in recent years, this is a different Melbourne side in 2017 and they are bound for some success.

Clayton Oliver has been a revelation for the Demons in 2017. He is averaging 31 disposals per game and his good form will continue in this one as the Demons continue on their winning ways.
