Hawthorn Hawks v North Melbourne Tips and Predictions - Hawks to bounce back against Kangaroos

Adam Cusworth 11 Aug 2017
  • Hawks are out of finals contention after going down to Richmond last weekend
  • North have won just one of their past nine games
  • Game gets underway at 3.20PM on Sunday

AFL footy heads to Tasmania for the last time this season when the Hawthorn Hawks take on North Melbourne in Launceston on Sunday afternoon.

The 3.20PM encounter presents the Hawks a great chance to bounce back after blowing their finals chances last weekend.

All the action will be broadcast on Channel 7 and Fox Sports, while AFL Live Vision is also available to ALL CrownBet members. Every Match, wherever you are.

Match Preview

Both sides come off defeats in Round 20. Hawthorn lost any finals hopes they may have had by going down to Richmond by 29 points, while North Melbourne fell to Collingwood by 54 in an uninspiring affair at Etihad Stadium.

The Hawks head in as $1.23 favourites in the head to head betting and have the superior form over the last couple of months but it will be interesting to see if the loss to the Tigers has taken the wind out of their sails.

Their coach, Alistair Clarkson, looks set to continue to play a host of kids, as their seasoned stars in Cyril Rioli, Grant Birchall and Ben Stratton are done for the year.

Despite the absence of some of their big names, Hawthorn, should have the edge in this. Tom Mitchell leads the competition for disposals and is likely to find a stack of the footy, while James Sicily and Ryan Burton should give the Hawks plenty of drive from halfback.

The Kangaroos, who have won just one of their past nine games, will need big games from the likes of Shaun Higgins, Jack Ziebell, Ben Cunnington and Trent Dumont. But with the likely absence of their star forward, Ben Brown, the task at hand appears to be a tough one.

Selection News

Hawthorn have all but shut the door on any of their injured premiership players returning this season, except for Paul Puopolo, who is a chance to come back in as early as this week. Luke Hodge comes back from suspension.

North Melbourne are likely to be without Ben Brown after the spearhead copped a concussion last weekend. Lachlan Hansen may be the man to come in to replace Brown.

Hawthorn have won the past three games between the two sides, including the Round 21 encounter last season by 39 points. The Hawks have won four of the six games over the Kangaroos that have been played at the University of Tasmania Stadium but they have not met each other at the venue since 2012, the day that Lance Franklin kicked 13 goals for the brown and gold.

The Hawks have won one, drawn one and lost one at their home away from home in Tassie this year, while the Roos are two from three in the Apple Isle in 2017, with those games played down in Hobart.

Prediction and Tips

Hawthorn will be too strong.
