After notching up four consecutive wins to start the 2017 AFL season, the Adelaide Crows will be out to make it five from five when they venture up to Metricon Stadium to take on the Gold Coast Suns on Saturday April 22.
The AFL Round 5 encounter gets underway at 4.35PM AEST and will be broadcast on Fox Footy. AFL Live Vision is also available to ALL CrownBet members. Every Match, wherever you are.
Gold Coast started the year with a couple of poor performances and questions were being asked about the likes of their coach, Rodney Eade, and veteran champion, Gary Ablett.
However, the Suns have responded in style by making a statement in thrashing Hawthorn at Metricon Stadium by 86 points in Round 3, before knocking over Carlton in Melbourne by 26 last weekend.
In the same period, there have been no hiccups whatsoever for the Adelaide Crows, who have launched into premiership favouritism with a series of authoritative wins, The South Australian based side come off a comfortable 58 point win over Essendon and a highlight of that encounter was their scoring prowess.
Eddie Betts and Taylor Walker combined for 11 goals and that pair benefitted from the work of Rory Sloane, Rory Laird and Matt Crouch further up the ground.
On face value, the Crows look to have way too much firepower for the Suns but the locals will be buoyed by their solid recent form. Tom Lynch comes off a seven-goal haul against Carlton, while Brandon Matera has booted nine majors in his two games this season.
A highlight of this match is that it should feature plenty of slick ball movement as both sides like to take the game on, however, if it develops into a shootout, the Crows should have too many answers.
Look for Taylor Walker and Eddie Betts to do their usual thing for the visitors and with Daniel Talia down back, Gold Coast’s Tom Lynch may struggle for the freedom he enjoyed last weekend.
Gold Coast's injury blues have returned and Steven May, Michael Barlow and Pearce Hanley are all likely to miss. Callum Ah Chee and Trent McKenzie are among the possible inclusions.
Adelaide have Brad Crouch available for selection but Josh Jenkins remains in doubt.
Gold Coast have never beaten Adelaide and the head to head record reads as 0-9 in favour of the Crows. Five of those have been held at Metricon Stadium, including the Round 9 clash last year that went the Crows way by 75 points.
On that occasion, an injury depleted Suns outfit had no answers for the likes of Rory Sloane, who found plenty of the footy, and Taylor Walker, who starred with five goals.
Prediction and Tips
It's hard to go past Adelaide at the moment. Crows by 24 points in what should be an entertaining game.
