Gold Coast Suns v Richmond Tigers Predictions and Match Preview - The Tigers set for a percentage booster at Metricon

Rippa Staff 9 Aug 2018
  • The Richmond Tigers face the Gold Coast Suns in this Round 21 clash at Metricon Stadium

The mighty Tigers will face the lowly Gold Coast Suns at Metricon Stadium at 2:10pm AEST on Saturday, August 11.

All the action can be seen live on Fox Sports 3 from 2:00pm

Match Preview

This match has the potential to get very, very ugly for the Gold Coast Suns. The Suns have been insipid over the past three months and are being called ‘a broken club’ by many in the AFL media.

When former Co-captain Tom Lynch announced to the playing group that he was leaving the club early last week, it was reported that many younger players challenged Lynch on his decision. Just days later, the Suns faced Melbourne at the MCG and showed absolutely no spirit.

The Suns were walked over. The Dees set up a 64-point halftime lead and finished with a 96-point victory.

The Tigers continued their dominance at the MCG, making it 18 straight victories with a narrow three-point win over Geelong on Friday Night. The Tigers won’t be happy with their final 10 minutes, looking to have the game parcelled up before a late Cats run almost stole victory.

It’s been an extraordinary season so far for the Tigers. Their 15-4 record is the best in the competition, however, they haven’t won a game away from Melbourne since Round 22 last year against Fremantle.

The Tigers are 15-0 in Melbourne this season and are 0-4 away from Melbourne, with losses to Adelaide, West Coast, Port Adelaide and the GWS Giants. Although the outcome is a mere formality, It will be interesting to see just how ruthless the Tigers are against the Suns.

Team News

The Tigers squad remains as competitive as ever, with Bachar Houli (Groin), Dion Prestia (Ribs), Jack Graham (Shoulder) and Nathan Broad (Calf) all pushing for selection on their way back from injury. Houli is listed as available and should return against the Suns, while Graham is likely to return in the VFL. Reece Conca who could make his miraculous return to footy in the VFL only 6 weeks after his horror injury.

Peter Wright’s season-ending knee injury makes him the ninth player that has been ruled out for the season for the Suns. David Swallow (Concussion) and Rory Thompson (Hamstring) will both need to pass fitness tests before return against the Tigers on Saturday.
