Gold Coast Suns v Collingwood Tips and Predictions - Plenty at stake as Eade and Buckley go head to head

Adam Cusworth 13 Jul 2017
  • Gold Coast and Collingwood have combined for just 11 wins this season
  • Magpies have dropped their past four matches
  • Suns set to regain players from injury

One of the most intriguing games of AFL Round 17 will be when the Gold Coast Suns take on Collingwood at Metricon Stadium on Saturday.

While both sides are out of the finals race, there is plenty at stake with the spotlight well and truly on the respective coaches

Fox Footy will broadcast the game, while AFL Live Vision is also available to ALL CrownBet members. Every Match, wherever you are.

Match Preview

Gold Coast sit in 13th spot on the ladder with six wins and are two positions clear of the 16th placed Collingwood, who have five wins to their credit. Little separates the two sides in the head to head betting and both have been posted at $1.90 in this market with CrownBet.

The Suns went down to Sydney by 67 points last weekend and have lost three of their past four, while Collingwood lost to Essendon by 37 in Round 16 and have dropped their past four.

Their coach, Nathan Buckley, is facing plenty of scrutiny and most pundits believe that this will be his last year in charge of the powerhouse club. His opposite number in this weekend's game, Rodney Eade, is also under the pump after overseeing three largely unspectacular years as the Gold Coast coach.

Collingwood's problems have been well documented. They have an A-grade midfield that consists of the likes of Scott Pendlebury and Adam Treloar but their system when heading forward has been poor. They rank 2nd in the compeition for disposals and 3rd for inside-50s but are just 11th for points scored.

Gold Coast also rank high for disposals. They are 3rd in this measure but have similar scoring output to Collingwood. However, the Magpies are better defensively and have been closer in a number of their losses.

Team News

Gold Coast's injury curse has begun to return. Gary Ablett, Pearce Hanley and Kade Kolodjashnij may return, however. At Collingwood, Darcy Moore and Jeremy Howe face fitness tests in their bids to return from injury.

Gold Coast and Collingwood have met on six occasions since the Suns joined the league in 2011 and it is the Magpies with the overall advantage, having won four of those clashes.

The last encounter between the two sides was in Round 22 last season and on that occasion it was the Pies by 71 points at Etihad Stadium. There have been four games at Metricon and the ledger is split at two wins apiece.

Prediction and Tips

Collingwood to get up in a close one.
